About The Position

NewsRadio 1040 WHO-AM/Des Moines is seeking a Farm Show assistant who is passionate about farming and agriculture to help the Big Show deliver top rated and award winning news and information to the farming industry. The ideal candidate will get exposure to a broad range of media/radio disciplines, specifically in farm and agricultural broadcasting.

Requirements

• Interest and knowledge of the agricultural industry.
• Able to be flexible with working hours.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently.
• Work experience or education in media field a plus.
• Career interest in media industry and agriculture.

Responsibilities

• Write, review and/or edit news copy, introductions, public service announcements, commercials, pre-recorded reports, contests, etc.
• Participate in promotional events.
• May be responsible for operating control board for studios and remote programming.
• Regulate program timing, operates syndicated programming, and plays commercials.
• Monitor the technical quality and accuracy of incoming and outgoing on-air programming from master control room.
• Protect station’s license by censoring live programs and deleting words/phrases not permitted on air.
• Process time-out programming for accurate play back.
• Check studio equipment for proper functioning and notifies Engineering of technical malfunctions affecting quality of the broadcast.
• Handle emergency inserts (e.g., news updates and breaking stories, emergencies, alert system tests, etc.).
• Rotates through various radio functions including sales, programming, events, etc. with focus on farm broadcasting with The Big Show on WHO-AM/Des Moines.
• Conducts research & analysis.
• Prepares & delivers reports as required.
• Learns job processes/requirements in assigned functions.
• Assists in developing and broadening interest in iHeartMedia.
