About The Position

This position is part of an ongoing recruitment process within the Department of Health Science and Nursing Department to develop a pool of qualified applicants. Qualified candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis and contacted directly by the Director of Clinical Education. This position is a semester-by-semester appointment located in eastern Connecticut. Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking applicants whose primary responsibilities will be to act as an adjunct clinical instructor for the undergraduate 4-year BS of Nursing program. This instructor is responsible for the supervision, instruction, and evaluation of nursing students in the approved clinical agencies and clinical laboratory setting.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with a current, unencumbered state of CT RN license.
  • Master's degree or higher in nursing.
  • 3 to 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Current Clinical experience in one or more of the following areas: Medical-Surgical/Adult Nursing, Obstetrical Nursing, Geriatric Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Pediatrics and Family Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing.
  • Experience evaluating student performance in clinical training settings.
  • Completion of health indicators (MMR, titers, TB status, Hepatitis B, and others as required by clinical affiliations) and CPR certification at the time of employment.
  • Commitment to the Mission and Vision of the Eastern Connecticut State University's Nursing Program.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Weekday/Weekend availability for nursing clinical instruction for 6-10 students in diverse healthcare settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience teaching undergraduate students in clinical settings.
  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) Credentials.
  • Experience managing and directing group clinical training for students in an undergraduate nursing program.
  • Experience with a wide range of educational strategies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, e-mail, and the Internet along with the ability to quickly learn new applications, including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software.
  • Experience in teaching in a skills lab or simulation.

Responsibilities

  • Teach clinical sections for undergraduate nursing students each semester based on clinical experience, in accordance with the approved course description, learning outcomes, and schedule.
  • Collaborate with course faculty to supervise pre-licensure nursing students in their clinical settings.
  • Correlate clinical and simulation education with didactic.
  • Provide educational opportunities that benefit students throughout the learning.
  • Evaluate students' written assignments and clinical performance.
  • Participate in on-campus lab or simulation activities with their clinical groups.
  • Serve as a liaison to clinical agencies.
  • Apprise each student of their clinical performance on a regular basis and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster critical thinking to complete care for patients.
  • Facilitate professional relationships with all members of the health care team.
  • Model professional behavior.
  • Provide clear expectations of outcomes to students within the clinical setting.
  • Collaborate with course faculty and the Nursing Simulation Specialist to fulfill clinical support and educational needs while meeting simulation program outcomes.
