About The Position

Lakeland Community College invites qualified candidates to submit their application as an expression of interest in future teaching position openings which may include daytime, evening, weekend, online, or hybrid (on-campus and online combination) classes Locations may include main campus, online, or at alternate locations, including classes at local high schools which are Lakeland’s College Credit Plus partners. Courses: We need qualified adjuncts to teach basic courses in Communication Studies. The following courses are commonly offered each semester. Please indicate your preferences when applying. COMM 1000 – Effective Public Speaking (3 units of load) Course Description: This course introduces students to the essential strategies and techniques employed by effective public speakers. The course covers strategic audience adaptation throughout the communication process. It provides suggestions for improving speeches in all facets, including invention, organization, style, and delivery. The course emphasizes the critical analysis of the effective and ineffective practices of historical, cultural, and contemporary speakers. It also provides opportunities for students to gain practical experiences in the art of self-expression. COMM 1100 – Effective Interpersonal Communications (3 units of load) Course Description: This introductory course helps students become better communicators and prepares them to cope with everyday problems in face-to-face communication involving family, friends, fellow students, and co-workers. It emphasizes roles, skills, strategies, and activities that help students to develop effective interpersonal relationships. Lectures, discussions, and exercises enable students to critically assess the impact that gender, culture, perception, conflict, self-disclosure, listening, language, non-verbal expression, and emotions have on interpersonal communication transactions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and 18 graduate credit hours in Communication Studies or closely related field (either as part of the degree or additional work beyond the degree).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Communication Studies, or closely related field, and experience teaching college-level courses at a community college.
  • The ability to integrate technology into instruction and develop hybrid or online courses is a plus.
