Loyola Marymount University's Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering is collecting resumes of potential applicants for future Part-Time faculty positions in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. There may not be openings at this time, but your application will be kept on file. Current applications will be reviewed as openings occur. The position, when needed, is assumed to be a one-semester appointment, normally to teach 1-2 courses. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering serves approximately 110 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering and in Environmental Science. The undergraduate Civil Engineering Program is accredited by ABET. Part-time faculty may be needed in the following areas of specialization: environmental, geotechnical, structural, water resources, traffic, construction management, surveying, AutoCAD, GIS, sustainability and general engineering. The applicant's curriculum vitae and/or cover letter should specify the specific areas/topics that she/he is willing to teach. The successful candidate must have a well-established professional career.

  • Prepare and distribute a course syllabus
  • Prepare and lead class sessions
  • Hold regular office hours and answer student questions
  • Develop, distribute, and/or grade discussion materials, homework, quizzes, and other course materials
  • Write, proctor, and grade midterm and final examinations
  • Maintain and timely submit class records, such as attendance and grade reports
  • Attend meetings and training, as needed
  • Comply with all university standards and requirements
  • Prior teaching experience is preferable
  • Ability to use browser-based software services and standard classroom and office equipment
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine interest in meeting the educational needs of students
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural/ethnic backgrounds of the students
  • Minimum salary is $2,373 per unit taught
