About The Position

This janitorial position at Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana (GCSI) is a result of the AbilityOne program in partnership with GCSI and the federal government to provide healthy operations and environments at local federal facilities. The AbilityOne program is one of the largest sources of employment in the United States for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. GCSI is one of about 500 non-profit organizations that provides employment opportunities in competitive, integrated environments at federal government locations. This is a great part-time opportunity at the Commissary/Northeast side of Indy (address is 9702 E. 59th St. Indianapolis, IN 46216). The days and hours needed are Tuesday-Friday from 6 PM to 12 AM and the pay is $17.75 per hour.

Requirements

  • No degree or credential requirements.
  • Demonstrated capability and ability to articulate prior experiences.
  • Ability to give full attention to others and comprehend basic written documents.
  • Ability to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Recognizes risks in activities and applies safety measures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in performing cleaning activities by hand.
  • Ability to learn proper use of janitorial tools and equipment.
  • Expertise in operating floor cleaning equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans office areas, courtrooms, hallways, lobbies, breakrooms/cafeterias, restrooms, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other assigned work areas.
  • Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
  • Cleans and disinfects the furniture and equipment.
  • Polishes metalwork.
  • Wipes down walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
  • Washes windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Empties wastebaskets and cleans ashtrays.
  • Transports trash and waste to the disposal area.
  • Replenishes bathroom supplies.
  • Communicates with Goodwill management and customers when appropriate.
  • Transports small equipment or tools between departments.
  • Sets up tables and chairs in auditoriums or halls.
  • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.
  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
