About The Position

Penn State Abington’s Division of Social Sciences, Business, and Education invites applications for a part-time English Language Development (ELD) Practicum Instructor position, beginning in January 2026. This is a one-semester appointment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and ESL Program Specialist Certification (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience working with English learners in a linguistically and culturally diverse public school setting.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching English learners at the elementary level in diverse contexts.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Availability after school hours is required to conduct weekly seminars and provide on-site mentoring.

  • Experience leading professional development for in-service teachers.
  • Experience providing constructive, supportive, and encouraging feedback to teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor a cohort of teacher candidates pursuing ESL certification.
  • Lead a one-hour weekly seminar at a school building.
  • Support teacher candidates in their practice through mentoring, reflection, and guidance.
