The EMS Teaching Assistant supports the mission and values of the college providing supportive instruction to any lead instructor and all students participating within the courses assigned. The EMS Training Assistant will maintain knowledge of all current curriculum knowledge, license or certifications, and awareness of current successful teaching strategies for student success. The EMS Teaching Assistant will maintain communication with all necessary departments and instructors.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school education required.
  • WI EMS licensure at the level of EMS training assistance to be provided in the classroom (with specific experience level) or WI RN licensure (with specific experience level.)
  • WI EMS licensure – 2 years’ experience as a field EMS provider with a WI-licensed ambulance service or WI RN licensure – 2 years’ experience in a hospital emergency department or 2 years’ experience with an air medical transport service.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Internet navigation, various online learning-based program navigation, Workday experience preferred
  • Educational teaching strategies and motivational techniques for classroom instruction
  • Ability to learn and use technology and alternative delivery methods, including but not limited to: online instruction and the use of distance education.
  • Skill in communication and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds and persons with physical and/or learning disabilities.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Ability to adapt to new and emerging technologies and incorporate them into the curriculum.
  • Ability to work in a team environment is essential.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours including evening or weekend hours.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Districts standard insurance policy terms.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in EMS- or health-related field preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience with adult learners is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with College and lead instructor policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, and providing grades on a timely basis.
  • Complies with all aspects of Board policies and work rules.
  • Maintains an effective line of communications with students, customer-based clientele, college community members, other full-time faculty, and adjunct faculty members.
  • Evaluates student performance and provides regular feedback in courses taught.
