About The Position

Our mission is to serve as the center for scientific, artistic, cultural, and educational activities to enhance the region’s quality of life and economic vitality. We're seeking an enthusiastic part-time educator to lead hands-on STEAM lessons at our science center. You'll work 3 days per week delivering our signature curriculum to students in preschool through middle school . You’ll work alongside our experienced team to facilitate engaging, interactive learning experiences that inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.

Requirements

  • College level education required. Bachelor of Education preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience necessary, preferably at the pre-school, elementary, or middle school level.
  • Experience in leading activities for students in Science, STEAM, or a STEAM field required.
  • Ability to work Tuesday-Friday, 20-25 hours per week
  • Ability to successfully complete a Pennsylvania State Police Clearance; a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance - obtained through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services; and a Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Record Information - obtained by submitting a full set of fingerprints to the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent for submission to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

  • Ability to stand for long periods, climb stairs frequently, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to understand and obey safety rules and regulations related to all equipment, materials, and chemicals.
  • Must have a willingness to utilize the newest educational technologies available in all educational programs.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with legal requirements.
  • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.

Nice To Haves

  • Early Childhood experience is a plus.
  • Work in a summer camp or co-teaching environment is recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead instructor for STEAM lessons delivered to program attendees and field trip groups (grades preschool-8)
  • Facilitate small group activities and instruction.
  • Set up and prepare lesson materials for yourself and other educators.
  • Handle daily lab space clean up.
  • Assist in hosting group visits such as field trips, as assigned, to include: greeting groups, orientations, escorting groups from one location to another within the facility, and assisting with departures.
  • Interact positively with the children, encouraging involvement and supporting the individual needs.
  • Work independently to assess situations and make decisions that enhance the guest experience, keeping the Director of Education informed
  • Proactively address logistical and/or behavioral concerns, making sure to involve the Director of Education (when necessary) for a productive resolution.
  • Provide camp counselors with assignments/guidance throughout the duration of the camp day.
  • Facilitate Science Center exploration, lunch time, and camp games or activities.
  • Prepare your space for the days’ activities and clean-up the room at the conclusion of the day.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and alert Director of Education when supplies need reordering
  • Maintain familiarity with emergency procedures, and assist in implementing them if/when necessary.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Education in support of the organization’s mission and goals.
