About The Position

As the driver you will be responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. As the driver you will need to perform a full range of driver duties that provide a safe and clean environment for the people we serve while ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and experienced preferred
  • Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.
  • Driving a 12-passenger vehicle.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard
  • Must complete Safe from Harm training within the first 90 days of employment
  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • The ability to run a vacuum-cleaning machine for cleaning the inside of the van.
  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to twenty-five pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking.
  • May require standing for extended
  • Must maintain a safe environment due to the other programs going on in the facility.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends if necessary and must be able to work outdoors as well.
  • All employees recognize that The Salvation Army is a church and agree that they will do nothing as an employee of The Salvation Army to undermine its religious mission.

Responsibilities

  • Empty, clean, and pick up papers, trash, and other debris inside and outside of the vehicle. Taking the van to the car wash as needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks such as preventive maintenance as needed. This can be done internally as well as at the dealership as needed.
  • Making sure milage is kept and turned in monthly to be recorded for maintenance purposes.
  • Communicate with Officer on ordering supplies that are needed.
  • Picking up Gleaners, Bishops Warehouse, Mid-West Food bank, Dollar General, Chick Fil A, Olive Garden, Kroger and any other donation sites as needed.
  • Picking up youth for programs during the week
  • Sunday morning pick-ups and after church drop offs
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership.
  • The ability to supervise community service workers and maintain their timecards and court related paperwork.
