About The Position

The College of Southern Nevada is seeking part-time service providers for the Disability Resource Center/Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. The role of the Notetaker involves attending classes with students who have documented disabilities, providing accurate and timely notetaking services to support their educational needs. This position requires strong listening, writing, and organizational skills, and can be performed on multiple campuses based on candidate preference.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with a minimum of one year of post-secondary educational experience.
  • Understanding of the basic sensitivities pertinent to communication with students who have disabilities.
  • Ability to take thorough and organized notes utilizing available technology from the information presented verbally in classrooms.
  • Legible handwriting, accurate spelling, use of acceptable grammar, and proficiency in the use of computers.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Attend designated class sessions as scheduled, ensuring punctuality and reliability.
  • Capture the essential content of lectures, discussions, and presentations, including diagrams, charts, and examples.
  • Ensure that notes are clear, concise, and easy to read.
  • Submit completed notes to the Disability Resource Center / Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services departments within the specified timeframe.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality standards regarding student information and note content.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Disability Resource Center / Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services staff and students to address any questions or concerns.
  • Attend training sessions as needed to enhance notetaking skills and stay updated on relevant disability-related information.
