About The Position

The Deputy Judicial Marshal provides security during courtroom proceedings and ensures the general security and safety of court employees. This position is responsible for directing jury activities and ensures jury security during jury trials. The Deputy Judicial Marshal is supervised by the Trial Court Administrator or his/her designee. The principal duties of this class are performed in both a courtroom and general office environment that may include exposure to potential personal danger.

Requirements

Basic law enforcement methods, techniques, equipment, and objectives
Court and related legal procedures and processes
Standard First Aid administration
Security equipment, including firearms, metal detection and screening methods and equipment, and related equipment
Customer service methods, techniques, and objectives
Cope with stressful situations calmly, fairly, tactfully, and with respect for individual rights
Establish and maintain effective relations with persons with varied racial, religious, ethnic or economic backgrounds
Operate security and screening equipment
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports
Make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established procedures
Learn new aspects of public security work
Adhere to the Idaho Judicial Branch Code of Conduct for non-judicial employees
Must be at least 21 years of age
Valid Idaho driver’s license
POST certification preferred; basic law enforcement training required: Patrol, Corrections, Military Police, etc.
Successfully complete a background investigation and have no felony convictions or history of domestic violence
High school diploma or GED equivalency required
Considerable years of experience in law enforcement required
Equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered
Clear speech with or without an accommodation, to effectively convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly and/or quickly
Sufficient clarity of hearing with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
Visual acuity, with or without an accommodation, to read instructions, review and organize documents
Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks
Ability to lift 25 lbs

Responsibilities

Attends court proceedings, deters or controls courtroom disturbances and outbursts, and ensures security and safety of persons in the courtroom
Carries out instructions of the presiding judge during courtroom proceedings
Takes individuals into custody on warrants & as ordered by the presiding judge including but not limited to, arresting & book in process of individuals
Monitors jury activities and performs duties of jury custodian, including jury orientation, arranging accommodations and transportation, escorting jurors to crime scenes, and tracking expenses
Ensures safety and security for problem solving court proceedings, Family Court Service classes, Court Assistance Office and other court, courthouse, building, and related security, as needed
Performs investigations of threats, juror misconduct reports, and related incidents as directed
Provides guidance and training to part-time or temporary Deputy Judicial Marshals
Assists the public by providing information and answering inquiries about court schedule, locations, and procedures
Completes reports and other related documents in a timely manner
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with county and court policies, procedures, and safety practices
Other duties as assigned
