About The Position

Fitchburg State University is searching for part-time Adjunct Instructors to teach variety of in person computer science courses. All part time faculty are responsible for providing our students with a high quality learning environment, while utilizing their focused expertise and experience in their individual classroom, laboratories and studios. The Computer Science Department is looking for dedicated individuals that have demonstrated teaching excellence, interest in and ability to teach a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Computer Science and Computer Information Systems. Teaching responsibilities may include hardware and software courses, programming courses in Java/Python, networks and databases, and other courses that meet the needs of the department. The Computer Science department offers the following majors/concentrations/tracks: Computer Science Computer Information Systems Game Programming Cybersecurity M.S. in Computer Science Minors: Computer Science Fitchburg State University has created an "Open Pool" vacancy announcement for part time day and evening adjunct faculty by discipline. The faculty chair and the divisional dean/associate vice president will review applications submitted when there is a specific need for part time adjunct to fill a course scheduled in the academic year for both the day and/or evening classes. The application process will require that applicants designate their preference for teaching in the day, evening or both. Please attach a letter of interest and resume when applying for any part time teaching position. Applications to be maintained in the pool will remain active for a three year period. Candidates selected to teach for the university are required to complete a CORI and the Student Clearinghouse Authorization form prior to hire. This will be sent out via an email welcome along with other pertinent preliminary information. The form provides authorization to the university to qualify degrees held through the National Student Clearinghouse. If the university is not able to qualify candidates' degrees, candidates will be required to submit official transcripts for all degrees held to the Office of Human Resources & Payroll Services, 160 Pearl Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420. If selected to teach, three (3) letters of recommendation will also be required.

Requirements

  • A minimum of Master's degree with substantial experience in Computer Science or closely related field; commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Must be able to teach on campus for in person classes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to teach courses in a variety of programming languages and other courses is preferred.
  • Develop/teach courses that contribute to both our undergraduate and graduate Computer Science programs.
  • Teach our regular graduate courses in late afternoon or evening time slots.
  • Ability to integrate appropriate instructional technology and innovative teaching techniques is highly desirable.
