About The Position

The Cosmetology Instructor prepares for and teaches assigned courses; evaluates student progress and provides academic advising; maintains necessary records and performs other job-related duties. The position reports to the Dean of Business and Industry. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Requirements

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Current NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners Cosmetology license
  • Current NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners Instructor License
  • Good communication skills
  • Five or more years of directly related work experience as a Licensed Cosmetologist

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in Cosmetology
  • Bilingual
  • Some teaching experience at the community college level

Responsibilities

  • Meets and holds day classes as scheduled
  • Provides assistance to students
  • Refers students to other college staff when necessary
  • Prepares, implements and evaluates student learning outcomes of courses taught based upon program outcomes
  • Keeps current on subject matter and teaching methodologies
  • Maintains student records and monitors student progress
  • Completes and submits institutional reports in a timely manner
  • Participates/assists with coordination of specific program/course management
  • Continuously analyzes and evaluates instructional results to improve instruction and evaluation of student progress
  • Provides supervisor with copy of all course SLOs and SLO assessments
  • Provides supervisor with copy of all current course syllabi
  • Assists with connecting program learning outcomes to institutional competencies
  • Conducts on-going self-evaluations to improve instructional techniques and methodologies
  • Provides assistance in implementing the College's Program Review process and recommendations
  • Promotes a positive image of the College
  • Engages in professional development activities
  • Assists students with career opportunities
  • Acquires computer/technology competencies as appropriate to position
  • Maintains security of personal computer access
  • Performs other professional or job-related duties as assigned
