About The Position

The Part-Time Counselor at Utica University provides essential clinical services, crisis management, and educational outreach related to mental health and substance use for students. Requirements

  • Masters degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling required.
  • NYS licensure preferred; unlicensed professionals considered with the expectation to obtain licensure within six months.
  • 2-3 years post-masters experience in mental health preferred, but strong clinical skills may compensate for less experience.
  • Experience with substance use issues preferred; basic knowledge required.
  • Crisis management and suicide assessment experience preferred; basic knowledge of risk factors required.
  • Experience working with young adults in higher education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally sensitive individual counseling to a diverse student population facing various challenges such as depression, anxiety, and substance use.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and develop therapeutic treatment plans using DSM-5 guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Health and Wellness Center staff to facilitate group therapies and psycho-educational programs.
  • Provide crisis intervention services for mental health emergencies on campus.
  • Complete clinical documentation and manage cases in coordination with other university offices.
  • Offer consultation and training on mental health and substance use issues to the university community.
  • Participate in clinical supervision and case reviews with counseling center staff.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities related to mental health and higher education.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of campus-wide educational events.
  • Participate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and programs.
