Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in food service or cooking in a professional setting.
  • ServSafe (or equivalent) certification required.
  • Ability to cook a variety of meals in large quantities.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Knowledge of special dietary needs and safe food handling practices.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work with a diverse team and resident population.
  • Able to stand and move around for most of the shift.
  • Comfortable lifting up to 40 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to squat, bend, stoop, and crouch occasionally.
  • Emotionally steady and able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing, and comprehend the same.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, self-motivated, and able to work without constant supervision.
  • Willingness to learn new food preparation techniques and presentation.
  • Knowledge of special dietary needs of residents and the required meal prep techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Must display team behaviors.
  • Ability to effectively deal with conflict or customer complaints.
  • Ability to focus on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Follows all food safety and equipment safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with community quality standards and requirements.
  • Ability to "short order" cook.
  • Minimum of one year of cooking experience (some short order cooking) and quantity cooking.
  • Must possess Serv-Safe certification, or willing to obtain upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals that are tasty, well-presented, and meet dietary needs.
  • Follow recipes to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Keep the kitchen clean and safe, following all sanitation and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor food temperatures and storage to meet health standards.
  • Assist with ordering and rotating stock with the Food Service Director.
  • Help plan and prep meals for the next day.
  • Offer input on new menu ideas and recipes.
  • Maintain accurate logs and cleaning charts.
  • Work as part of a team to exceed resident dining expectations.
