Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

  • Ability to hear and interpret normal speaking voices.
  • Must be able to see well enough to read and comprehend normal office paperwork.
  • Physical ability to work standing for periods of 2 to 4 hours at a time.
  • Ability to shackle and unshackle hand and leg irons.
  • Must be able to speak loudly, clearly, and distinctly.

Responsibilities

  • Direct defendants and witnesses to the stand.
  • Handle exhibits and check courtroom security and safety.
  • Make daily work reports.
  • Provide arrest history information to judges.
  • Monitor courtroom noise levels and enforce compliance with court rules.
  • Remove violators and/or unruly or hostile defendants.
  • Ensure that witnesses, jurors, and litigants are dressed properly.
  • Fingerprint defendants and escort prisoners.
  • Shackle and unshackle prisoners as needed.
  • Relay unusual circumstances or information to supervisors for evaluation and action.
