About The Position

Peer Success Coaches (PSC) represent an integral part of The Chaiken Center for Student Success. PSCs will work with students on an individual and group basis to help them develop academic and success skills. PSCs will represent The Chaiken Center at campus events and will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Chaiken Center staff, faculty, and university staff in delivering and developing academic coaching and providing feedback to improve student services. PSCs will have the opportunity to develop as leaders by learning and honing a variety of skills. They will have the opportunity to participate in problem solving and creativity as they determine effective ways of engaging with students who learn in different ways. PSCs will also develop and fine-tune organizational skills as they balance individual student appointments and group sessions. This opening also allows PSCs to enhance their communication skills. This is an excellent opportunity for students who have an interest in the helping professions such as: education, customer/client services, or any occupation in which you will utilize problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills.

Requirements

• Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 which must be maintained while serving as a PSC.
• Possess effective and strong academic/success and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate a responsible work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students and groups of students to help their peers develop and hone academic skills.
• Incorporate academic skills into habitual practices.
• Document every academic coaching session using department-approved documentation protocol.
• Attend ongoing professional development and monthly staff meetings.
• Be prompt for appointments and classes, take complete and organized notes, manage time efficiently, and handle problems tactfully and effectively.
• Keep information regarding all students confidential.
