About The Position

The Cashier at Great Lakes Ace Hardware is primarily responsible for customer acknowledgment, ensuring a positive company image, and promoting goodwill through their attitude and appearance. This role is crucial as it involves direct customer interaction, and the Cashier is expected to uphold the company's Mission, Vision, and Core Values consistently.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals.
  • Effective communication skills with customers and associates.
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in various forms.

Responsibilities

  • Operate cash register by scanning merchandise and engaging customers through suggestive selling.
  • Process refunds and issue in-store merchandise credits for returned items.
  • Utilize loss prevention techniques to minimize shortages and prevent shoplifting.
  • Follow company policies and procedures for all transactions, ensuring customers receive benefits of Ace Rewards membership.
  • Maintain familiarity with ads, rebates, and special pricing, reporting any pricing errors to management.
  • Answer telephones and direct calls to the appropriate department using the paging system and two-way radios.
  • Greet customers and assist with questions about merchandise, using The S.A.L.E.S. process to help them find items.
  • Aid customers in locating merchandise in-store and online, as well as processing special orders.
  • Display, stock, and maintain merchandise according to company guidelines, building displays as necessary.
  • Assist with color matching and mixing paint.
  • Collect shopping carts and carry merchandise to customer vehicles when needed.
  • Assist customers with service areas such as chain, rope, key, and glass cutting, screen repair, and knife sharpening.
  • Follow the nightly maintenance checklist to ensure store cleanliness and recovery of assigned work areas.
  • Refer customer complaints to the appropriate person for resolution.
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance and work a flexible schedule, including weekends.
