About The Position

The Part-Time Building Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, activities, and events within the Union’s facilities. This role serves as the primary onsite contact for patrons and manages audio/visual services. The Building Manager ensures the facility maintains a fresh, safe, comfortable, attractive, and engaging environment for clients, constituents, and guests. This is a part-time position. Learning Outcomes: Develop expertise in building operations and event management. Enhance problem-solving and emergency response skills. Improve communication and customer service abilities. Supervision: Receives direct supervision from the AM Operations Manager. Essential Functions: Coordination of Operations and Events: Oversee building operations and coordinate activities and events to align with organizational needs and exceed patron expectations. Utilize event management software (EMS and Visio) to manage meeting space reservations and communicate event requirements to relevant staff. Reporting and Communication: Utilize building and incident reports to convey important information to Union departments effectively. Facility Maintenance: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of building infrastructure including media equipment, HVAC systems, lighting, and fire safety. Address issues promptly to ensure a high-quality experience for patrons. Emergency Response: Act as the building representative during emergencies (e.g., fire, severe weather, bomb threats, medical emergencies, and criminal behavior) until professional staff or authorities arrive. This includes coordinating staff for evacuations or sheltering, interfacing with emergency personnel, and contacting KU Public Safety for criminal incidents. Policy Implementation: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of KU Memorial Unions policies and procedures. Implement these policies to ensure patron safety and proper facility use, including managing “time, place, and manner” issues, building security, and closing procedures. Additional Responsibilities: Patron Information: Serve as a reliable source of information about KU and KU Memorial Union areas. Professional Environment: Maintain an organized and professional working environment. Collaboration: Meet weekly with Building & Event Services professional staff. Event Support: Provide specific support for events as needed. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities. Required Education and Training: Flexible Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Customer Service Experience: Previous customer service experience. Educational Background: High school diploma or GED. Preferred Qualifications: Event/Facilities Management Experience: Experience in event or facilities management. Audio/Visual Equipment Experience: Familiarity with audio/visual equipment. University of Kansas Familiarity: Knowledge of the University of Kansas. Student Status: Enrollment at the University of Kansas. Note: This position is open to anyone, but preference will be given to KU students. Qualifications
