About The Position

We are seeking a creative, patient, and energetic Part-Time Art Teacher with ceramics experience to teach in our Art Studio program. This role focuses on hands-on instruction that empowers adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to create art products for sale to the public. The ideal candidate enjoys teaching in a collaborative, fast-paced, and creative environment and is motivated by meaningful, mission-driven work. Mission Alignment Wellspring Community exists to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live full, productive, and satisfying lives in a nurturing, values-based environment. This role directly supports that mission through creative instruction and relationship-centered teaching.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching art and/or ceramics.
  • Minimum one year experience working with individuals that have intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Patience, flexibility, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors using positive supports.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, hands-on environment.
  • Alignment with Wellspring’s mission and values.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s license and possess the willingness and skills necessary to drive 15 passenger vehicles to transport participants to various outings and activities.
  • Experience providing support with physical, emotional, cognitive, and mental health challenges.
  • Excellent communication and relational skills to manage the multiple relationships within the program environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve effectively and manage the demands of a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification to ensure health and safety of clients.
  • Employment contingent on passing background check, drug screen and obtaining DOT certification.
  • Qualified Medication Administration Personnel through CDPHE required, if not currently QMAP certified, we will pay for the costs of obtaining certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or a Human Services Field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach art classes (art, ceramics, candle making, paper crafts and upcycling projects).
  • Use graphic design skills to create product concepts, templates, and visual layouts participants can execute.
  • Adapt lessons to support a wide range of abilities and learning styles.
  • Create a structured, positive, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Support participant independence while ensuring health and safety.
  • Collaborate with program staff and volunteers during class time.
  • Prepare classroom spaces before class and ensure cleanup afterward.
  • Document participant engagement and progress.
  • Administer medications and assist with ADLs as needed.
  • Transport participants to community activities when required.
