About The Position

West Hills Community College District is seeking part-time (Adjunct) Faculty for Political Science. The position involves teaching introductory courses designed to help students develop a foundational understanding of the discipline and the skills necessary to meet their educational and career goals. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for educating a diverse student population through culturally responsive pedagogy and effective practices for engaging students with diverse learning needs, backgrounds, and academic goals. Teaching assignments may include a mixture of day, evening, and weekend courses, as well as face-to-face, online, and hybrid classes, depending on campus needs and course assignments.

Requirements

  • Master's in political science, government, or international relations OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, ethnic studies, Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) OR the equivalent.
  • Evidence of sensitivity and responsiveness to the racial, ethnic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct and evaluate students effectively in face-to-face, hybrid, or online classes.
  • Implement contemporary teaching methods that enhance learning and utilize technology for instructional and non-instructional duties.
  • Incorporate the use of technology in performing instructional and non-instructional duties including distance education technologies.
  • Teach courses consistent with the approved Course Outline of Record.
  • Assess and evaluate class content and materials, making changes based on student needs.
  • Champion collaborative practices in instruction that lead to an active student-centered environment.
  • Work with counseling/advising and student services teams to support and address student needs.
  • Advise and assist students.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
