ACE (Academic Center for Excellence) exists to encourage and equip students to develop and practice skills for independent learning. Sessions in the ACE Lab reinforce and elaborate on course learning objectives and concepts through peer and professional tutoring and guided skills practice.   • Support individual writing styles while correcting common mistakes in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of grammar rules and common spelling mistakes.
  • Guide students in writing by using context clues and understanding subject matter.
  • Encourage students to complete their assignments while providing strategies and skills practice.
  • Model problem-solving strategies for students.
  • Transcribe spoken words for students who have difficulty typing.
  • Formulate open-ended questions to promote student thinking.
  • Learn and adopt new writing tutor strategies through on-the-job training.
  • Ask for help from fellow tutors when needed.
  • Allow silence during appointments to facilitate thinking and learning.
  • Use the 'guide, prompt, then observe' model of tutoring.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided to students.
  • Ensure student confidentiality.
  • Assist in promoting ACE services.
  • Adhere to all ACE policies and processes.
  • Arrive punctually and submit a monthly time sheet.
  • Communicate regularly with ACE leadership regarding issues and suggestions.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in English or a related field.
  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft 365 suite, particularly Word, Word online, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to guide students in formatting papers in MLA and APA format.
  • Solid understanding of file management (cloud vs. computer).
  • Ability to work with students on foundational reading and writing skills to polishing research papers.
  • Ability to communicate warmly, respectfully, and clearly with all types of students.
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others.
  • Commitment to active learning.
  • Enthusiasm for course content and learning strategies.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
