About The Position

The Direct Support Professional is responsible for assisting and monitoring clients in various aspects of self-care, including dressing, bathing, toileting, and meal times. This role involves ensuring clients utilize family-style dining and assisting with housekeeping responsibilities such as clothing care, house cleaning, and yard care. The professional will also help clients prepare meals and nutritional supplements, administer prescribed medication accurately, and implement prescribed diet orders while utilizing adaptive equipment. Additionally, the role requires following established behavior programs, collecting data, and adhering to safety procedures. The Direct Support Professional will participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team, communicate client information as directed, and transport clients on company vehicles. The position also involves assisting clients during community outings and school or day program activities. Staff development classes and competency testing are required, and the professional must ensure a clean, safe, and secure work area and company vehicles. Documentation must be completed as required, and any violations of client rights or on-the-job injuries must be reported immediately. Punctuality and adherence to the dress code are essential, as well as positive interactions with clients, parents, guardians, and coworkers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
  • NC Driver's License.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • No experience required.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and be self-motivated.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and be reachable by phone.
  • Physical strength: Able to lift or move up to 40 lbs or more.
  • Ability to perform MANDT, CPR, and First Aid techniques.
  • Daily contact with body fluids, cleaning agents, and general household equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and monitor clients while dressing, bathing, toileting, and in all other aspects of self-care.
  • Assist and monitor clients during meals to ensure utilization of family style dining.
  • Assist and monitor clients in all aspects of housekeeping responsibilities (Clothing care, house cleaning, and yard care).
  • Assist and monitor clients in preparing meals and nutritional supplements.
  • Assist and monitor clients in the administration of prescribed medication without error.
  • Assist and monitor clients in the implementation of prescribed diet orders and utilization of adaptive equipment.
  • Implement and follow all established behavior programs, data collection, and established safety procedures.
  • Assist and monitor clients in appropriate active treatment including training objective plans, recording data, and implementing service goals.
  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team and communicate appropriate client information as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Transport and monitor clients on Company vehicles as directed.
  • Assist and monitor clients during community outings.
  • Assist and monitor clients during participation at school and day program activities.
  • Attend staff development classes as scheduled and successfully complete required competency testing.
  • Ensure that work area and company vehicles are clean, safe, secure, and well maintained.
  • Complete all required documentation as listed in facility communication book and/or any software system.
  • Report any violations of client rights to supervisory staff immediately.
  • Report any on-the-job injury to supervisory staff immediately.
  • Arrive to work on time and leave the work site at the end of the shift or when the next shift arrives.
  • Report to work on all scheduled days unless absence has been approved by supervisor.
  • Interact with clients in a positive manner and in accordance with Clients Rights Policies.
  • Interact with parents, guardians, and other visitors in a positive manner.
  • Work as a team player and interact positively with coworkers.
  • Adhere to established LIFE, Inc. dress code as it relates to clothing, shoes, jewelry, and nail length.
  • Assist with training and production with LIFE's SpecialTees as needed.
