About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at 13-4 Hillsborough County (Multihire). The mission of this position is to support the effective functioning of community corrections by managing the intake and processing of offenders, ensuring accurate data entry, and maintaining comprehensive offender records. This role is crucial in enhancing public safety by interpreting and coding sentencing documents, verifying offender data, and preparing detailed criminal records. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves. This is not a probation officer position.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
  • The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) only hires U.S. citizens and those authorized to work in the U.S. FDC uses E-Verify to confirm an employee’s eligibility to work after completing the I-9 form.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day intake and processing of offenders placed or released on community supervision, ensuring accurate data entry into the Offender Based Information System (OBIS).
  • Interpret, coding, and entering documents related to offender sentencing and monetary obligations into the CDC and OBIS databases, utilizing advanced tools like the Automated Correctional Task System and Felony Offense Coding Manual.
  • Obtain, researching, interpreting, and verifying offender data to establish initial computer records for new commitments, and assist in coordinating initial and pre-release orientation programs.
  • Requesting and screening criminal record information through NCIC/FCIC and other criminal justice databases and preparing detailed prior records for new intakes.
  • Developing, coordinating, and monitoring community service work activities, assisting with job needs and program assignments, and ensuring high-quality offender photographs for the department's website.
