About The Position

Performs advanced parole administration and supervision work. Work involves reviewing and approving parole supervision activities, parole investigations, and parole release plans and reports; coordinating case assignments; conducting case analyses; and supervising the work of others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major course work in Criminal Justice, Law, or Public Administration preferred.
  • Five years full-time, wage-earning criminal justice, criminal justice administration, case management, case processing, or social services experience.
  • Must have a valid state driver license.
  • Must maintain valid license for continued employment in position.
  • Applicants must meet the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) access eligibility criteria as contained in the FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy.
  • Must maintain TLETS access eligibility for continued employment in position.
  • Knowledge of the principles of criminology and penology.
  • Knowledge of legal proceedings and administrative law in the State of Texas.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in administrative problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment.

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, and supervises parole administration activities, ensuring compliance with agency policies, procedures, standards, and objectives; and directs staff in developing new sources of information and in improving casework and administrative hearing techniques.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures; and develops, reviews, and revises operational manuals, administrative directives, and training materials to include curriculum, lesson plans, presentation slides, and exams.
  • Evaluates and analyzes operational reviews and training needs; assists in developing an annual operational review plan to identify the departments, sections, and areas to be reviewed each fiscal year; and assists in developing and updating training schedules to identify training priorities.
  • Designs and conducts operational reviews to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of Board business to include site inspections, examination of records, programs, and documents and investigation of operational procedures; and designs and conducts in-person and remote trainings to include designing and developing methods for the assessment and evaluation of training effectiveness.
  • Prepares reports summarizing the findings of each operational review; and prepares reports summarizing the attendee performance and feedback of each training.
  • Supervises the work of others; and provides technical guidance to staff.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
