About The Position

The Parole Agent 1 position at the Altoona District Office is a trainee role focused on supervising offenders released on probation or parole. The agent will work to improve public safety and reduce recidivism by helping parolees and probationers adjust to society, developing treatment plans, and monitoring their conduct. This role involves community engagement, coordination with various stakeholders, and providing testimony in legal proceedings. Successful completion of a 12-month training period will lead to a promotion to Parole Agent 2 with a salary increase.

Requirements

  • Four years of paraprofessional experience, including two years in social services, human services, corrections, or law enforcement; or
  • Two years of relevant experience and an associate's degree; or
  • A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, legal studies, political science, behavioral science, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver's license or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise offenders on probation or parole to ensure compliance with their conditions.
  • Develop treatment plans tailored to the needs of individual parolees and probationers.
  • Monitor the conduct of probationers and parolees, acting as a point of contact for them and their families.
  • Provide testimony in court regarding the status and behavior of parolees and probationers.
  • Coordinate with employers, counselors, and family members to support the reintegration of parolees into society.
  • Conduct home visits and inspections to ensure compliance with parole conditions.
  • Assist in the arrest of individuals who violate their probation or parole.
