About The Position

We're looking for a hands-on, dedicated Irrigation Tech to maintain and enhance our beautiful parkways and open spaces. If you enjoy working outdoors and have experience with irrigation systems and landscaping, this could be the perfect role for you! We offer competitive pay based on your experience and certifications. We are hiring for one position at either a Tech 1 or a Tech 2 level, see descriptions and pay below.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Some irrigation system or installation experience.
  • Three years of experience in irrigation system maintenance or installation.
  • Backflow testing certification.
  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in grounds maintenance; working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties listed above.
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
  • Follow through with tasks and adapt to changing priorities, process conditions, and circumstances.
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated desire to learn.
  • Work independently on specific tasks with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Basic understanding and reading of irrigation, utility, and as-built plans.
  • Skilled in operating the listed tools and equipment, demonstrating a strong understanding of their functionality and maintenance requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to learn and use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Establish effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors, contractors, supervisors, and the public.
  • Represent the District in a professional manner, exemplifying integrity and excellence always.
  • Must be able to arrive at work within 60 minutes of on-call notification.
  • Physically able to move about on work sites and under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, when necessary, may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Skilled in the safe operation of tools and equipment used.
  • Ability to operate electrical tracing devices.
  • Ability to understand water budgets and basic concepts of ET based watering.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with established safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, community residents, and visitors.
  • Programs and operates computerized, central irrigation system.
  • Operates and maintains all aspects of irrigation systems.
  • Always wears appropriate safety equipment including protective headwear, eye and ear protection, safety vest, safety shoes, gloves, respirators, and breathing apparatus.
  • Follows all safety guidelines for confined space entry and all guidelines for trench safety.
  • Establishes a daily work schedule for the repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Keeps a record of daily activities and creates and manages work orders.
  • Maintains a consistent inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Assists in establishing watering schedules and keeps a written record of all changes to the irrigation schedule.
  • Performs utility locates and responses assigned.
  • Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds, picks up litter from premises.
  • Assists with the completion of a variety of projects in parks, parkways, and open space.
  • Maintains and adjusts equipment and tools, including electric motors, water pumps, sprinklers, trenchers, and irrigation systems.
  • Assists in the training and/or supervision of seasonal employees.
  • Assists with the production of assigned special events.
  • Active participant of snow removal program, assigned to rotating snow crew that will involve some night, weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Collaborates professionally with Section, Division, Department and District employees.
  • Assists in setting up and taking down equipment from various parks, recreation programs, and community events. Prepares facilities for park and recreation program use.
  • Works with Vendors to obtain parts and supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Open and close, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.
  • Helps to monitor and communicate with landscape contractors.
  • Enters and manages work orders in asset management system as needed.
  • Responsible for routine inspections of irrigation systems.
  • Manages specific projects, as assigned.
  • Assists with maintaining required inventory levels and recommending purchases as needed for supplies.
  • Identifies potential problems and initiates resolutions.
  • Completes and submits required reports as needed (incident, work order, etc.)
  • Completes and sends Backflow testing reports to Highlands Ranch Water.
  • Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
