About The Position

The Town of Erie’s Parks Division is seeking an experienced, innovative and proactive leader to join our Parks and Open Space team as our Parks Supervisor for Athletics/Weekend Operations! Reporting to the Parks Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for overseeing all weekend maintenance operations, special event support, and athletic field preparation operations for the Parks & Open Space Division. Full-Time, Hourly Hiring rates are dependent upon experience. 2026 Anticipated Hiring Salary Range $40.30/hr - $48.37/hr 2026 Full Salary Range $40.30/hr - $56.43/hr Anticipated Work Schedule: Full-time (Monday-Friday shifts) 40 hours per week with some nights and weekends as needed. Ability to be on-call is required. The schedule may vary depending on specific division needs and Town events. Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in parks or wildlife management, forestry, horticulture, turf management or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in parks and open space maintenance operations with at least three (3) years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to obtain CPR, AED and First Aid certifications within three months of hire
  • Ability to obtain Pesticide Applicators License within three months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Assist, perform and direct a variety of routine to complex maintenance and construction activities to include mowing, trimming, fertilizing, aerating, seeding, top-dressing, trash collection, turf management, irrigation, athletic field maintenance, playground maintenance, trails maintenance, skate park maintenance, event management and support, general forestry, open space and horticultural assignments
  • Assist and perform maintenance and construction activities as needed.
  • May perform a variety of heavy laboring activities including the use of hand tools, a wide variety of power equipment and heavy construction and maintenance equipment
  • Operate heavy and light duty equipment to perform maintenance and construction tasks
  • May install and maintain concrete work, signage, fences, courts, benches, grills, tables and other park amenities
  • May be responsible for the inspection and assessment of playgrounds, splash pads, park amenities, construction activities and athletic fields for safety and compliance with Park and ADA standards
  • May be responsible for irrigation systems maintenance, including programming controllers, designing systems and layouts and fixing breaks. May have primary responsibility for all Town irrigation systems
  • May review landscape or irrigation plans and prepare recommendations prior to construction; participate in pre-bid, pre-construction, and project progress meetings; develop punch lists and conduct extensive landscape or irrigation inspections prior to granting initial and final acceptance on landscape projects
  • Oversee related special events to include ordering materials, setting up equipment, and coordinating with inside staff and outside agencies
  • Maintain adequate equipment, tool, and material inventories as well as complete repairs, prepare repair requirements and recommends corrective action
  • Maintain a safe working environment to include working in traffic and congested areas, working in ditches and confined spaces and all work environments
  • Assist with preparation of the annual budget for the division and monitors assigned budgets throughout the year
  • Process purchase orders and invoices
  • Perform data entry of information, maintenance logs, work orders and other data
  • Maintain daily, weekly, monthly and annual records of personnel, equipment, and materials
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints in a timely manner
  • Prepare necessary records and reports
  • Recruit, interview, hire, perform orientations, schedule and supervise full-time and part-time/seasonal staff and volunteers
  • Train and mentor staff and volunteers to include creation of training materials, conducting staff meetings, and providing professional development
  • Manage staff performance by maintaining staff-related documentation, completing timely and thorough performance evaluations, coaching and initiating disciplinary action as needed
  • Create and promote positive working relationships and an inclusive environment amongst staff, volunteers and participants.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution strategies as needed
  • Ensure all required staff and volunteer certifications and trainings are completed
  • Submit bi-weekly payroll by established deadlines, verify accurate timesheet entries and make adjustments as needed
  • Track and maintain staff and volunteer hours for budgetary purposes and ensure ACA and labor law compliance
  • Work closely with and oversees the work of contractors and vendors, inspect and approves work
