About The Position

The Parks Service Worker for the City of Bozeman Parks Department is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance, construction, and repair of park and recreation grounds and facilities. This role involves beautifying and maintaining the appearance of parks, performing minor repairs, operating equipment, and ensuring cleanliness and safety in park facilities. The position requires a high level of individual judgment and is completed under general supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years of experience in maintenance, construction, and repair of park-related grounds and facilities.
  • Experience in operating, servicing, and performing minor repairs on light and heavy duty equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of construction and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to read construction plans and locate water/sewer lines.
  • Experience in customer service and public interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pesticide application as required, including calculating proper amounts and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Build and maintain the City's ice rinks to ensure safe conditions for residents.
  • Remove snow and maintain sidewalks and streets in winter months for safe travel.
  • Maintain the interior and exterior of park buildings, including roofs, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Keep parks clean and safe by picking up trash and maintaining trash receptacles.
  • Paint buildings and restrooms as directed, including staining and oiling signs and benches.
  • Install, inspect, and maintain playground equipment for safety.
  • Maintain irrigation systems as necessary.
  • Ensure trails are safe and accessible, including installing new systems and controlling weeds.
  • Observe safe work methods and use related safety equipment appropriately.
  • Operate and maintain light and medium duty equipment and trucks.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools related to work assignments.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Keep supervisors informed about work progress and potential problems.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions to stay current on best practices.
  • Respond to citizens' questions and provide outstanding customer service.
  • Communicate and coordinate with others to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the role.
