About The Position

Maintain all parks and properties within the Geneva Park District. Also assist with Special Events. Hours and Dates of Employment: 5 days/week, could include weekends 7:00am—3:30pm Average 35—40 hours per week approximately 13 weeks May—August Supervisor: Reports to Assistant Superintendent of Parks, Superintendent of Parks and Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have criminal background clearance, valid driver’s license and able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications as well as maintain the ability to communicate effectively with other parks staff.
  • Ability to operate Park District vehicles as well as equipment such as zero-turn mowers, string trimmers, blowers, pumps, hedge trimmers, etc.
  • Handling Park District materials up to 50 pounds. Assistance will be provided when necessary.
  • Resolve differences and problems that arise with patrons and work together with employees.
  • The Seasonal Maintenance Staff must exhibit good problem-solving ability and good judgment in keeping with the mission of the Park District.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous grounds maintenance and/or building maintenance experience is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current CPR and Standard First Aid certifications.
  • Be on time for scheduled shifts.
  • Complete orientation training on all power tools and equipment.
  • Inspect equipment before use.
  • Maintain the landscape of the Park District parks and facilities (grass, natural areas, flower beds)
  • Maintain the facilities and amenities of the Park District parks and facilities (bathrooms, garbage cans, playgrounds, pavilions).
  • Conduct yourself in a safe manner and promote a safe work environment.
  • Treat Park District patrons with courtesy and respect.
  • Wear seat belts at all times while in Park District vehicles and equipment.
  • Clean work areas when finished and ensure facilities are locked.
  • Administer First Aid according to the Park District’s Communicable Disease Policy.
  • Understand the Park District’s safety procedures and requirements. This includes completion and follow-through on all accident reports, emergency safety procedures, reporting of hazardous equipment, facilities, or conditions and the conduct of any employees under their supervision. Report all incidents and potential hazards to the safety committee as soon as possible
  • Attend in-service trainings and meetings as directed by Supervisor.
  • Assist all employees of the Park District as needed
