About The Position
The Parks Ranger Leadworker supports the safe and responsible use of park space. The position provides training and daily direction to the Parks Ranger staff responsible for conflict resolution and customer service in the Park system. This position gathers field information for and reports back to the Community Services Team to allow informed decisions by management. This is a highly responsible, leadership position overseeing the day to day operations of the City of Madison Parks Ranger Program with the established goal of providing safe recreational opportunities for the city's residents. The employee has the ability to perform all work of a Parks Ranger and will lead a team of Parks Rangers, seasonal Parks Rangers and other necessary Parks staff to protect park lands, enforce city ordinances, and provide educational instruction on park rules. Work involves independently overseeing the work of others on assignments of substantial intricacy within established protocols. The Parks Ranger Leadworker is responsible for determining time, place, and sequence of actions to be taken. Under general supervision of the Recreation Services Coordinator, the employee will be responsible for day to day field operations of the Parks Ranger program and will assist management in the implementation, development, and evaluation of Parks Policy. This position is regularly scheduled for 40 hours per week. Shift start and end times will vary. Employees may be eligible for loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
