About The Position

The City of Indianola is currently welcoming applications for the position of Parks Maintenance Worker - Mower for the Parks Department. The City of Indianola (pop. 16,069) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair and other events. This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to: Operation of tractors, mowers, and power weed trimmers. Picking up paper and other debris in mowing areas. Regular daily maintenance of equipment checking and cleaning of filters, lubricating, checking fluid levels, maintaining sharp mowing blades, etc. Follows OSHA procedures to ensure safety policies and procedures are enforced for the protection of the crews, co-workers and public.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Must be a self-motivated individual with a tolerance to working outdoors in the summer heat.
  • Knowledge of tractor/mower operations and maintenance.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to safely operate tractors/mowing equipment and trimmers.
  • Ability to read and follow directions.
  • Have good reasoning ability and good common sense.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities
