About The Position

ESSENTIAL DUTIES Performs semi-skilled, skilled, and administrative work in maintaining the mechanical equipment of the department. Works under the supervision of the Parks Superintendent, Assistant Parks Superintendent and/or Greens Supervisor and Parks Maintenance Worker IV - Mechanic. Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, divisions, departments, officials, and all members of the general public. Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the city. Carries out and evaluates preventive maintenance schedules for all mechanical equipment, either personally, or through outside vendors. Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air-driven tools. Tests, services, diagnoses problems, and repairs mechanical equipment properly and in a timely manner. Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work. Repairs brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies and related systems. Cuts and welds metal and performs body repair, touch up and related work. Changes and repairs tires and tubes on equipment. Evaluates status of mechanical equipment, and performs or schedules needed repairs. Conducts various analyses and inspections of mechanical systems to determine the most cost-effective means of maintenance, repair or replacement. Requisitions equipment, parts, and supplies used for mechanical system maintenance. Provides emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate. Repair in field or set up for transport. Maintains records, prepares reports and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical equipment. Works closely with Vehicle Maintenance on repairs and or service preformed on units with COF unit numbers. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned. Requirements

  • This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
  • This position requires a baseline audiometric examination.
  • Extensive background checks required.
  • Graduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent plus some specialized training in mechanics, maintenance management, or a closely related field.
  • Valid driver's license with CDL endorsement, with acceptable driving record for past three years or state of current residency, or ability to obtain CDL within one year of date of hire.
  • Two (2) years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of small engine mechanics; considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves, generators, and welding, price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain effective preventive maintenance programs, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and general computer knowledge, some knowledge of Microsoft office.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
  • This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
  • Employee is required to supply their own hand tools and storage cabinet/tool chest.
