Under the supervision of the Maintenance Crew Leader, works as part of a crew who completes a wide variety of park maintenance operations and project work at various sites during the spring, summer, fall, and early winter. This position is seasonal or part-time.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • A valid Michigan Driver's License may be required for some positions.
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance construction trades, including painting, carpentry, electrical and electronic repair, plumbing, etc.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing preventive and emergency maintenance practices.
  • Operating knowledge of a variety of mowers, brush hogs, edgers, chainsaws, snow removal, trail grooming and other equipment used in park maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of the proper use of manual and power tools commonly used in the maintenance construction trades.
  • Ability to layout work efficiently so as to minimize man-hours and materials required to properly complete work.
  • Knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA occupational health and safety rules, regulations and requirements.
  • Thorough working knowledge of safety protocols and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Performs seasonal building and grounds maintenance in the spring and fall and makes repairs and improvements at other times as needed.
  • Performs a wide variety of grounds work including cutting and transporting firewood, snow removal, trail construction and maintenance, tree trimming and removal, constructs boardwalks and bridges, paints, repairs tables and benches, chips brush, and removes invasive plant species.
  • Operates equipment as needed, including mowers and tractors, chippers and other equipment.
  • Responsible for completing assigned tasks in a timely manner and to the standards established by the Parks Commission and administered by management staff.
  • Performs other functions as assigned.
