About The Position

The Parks Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing staff and managing daily horticulture and tree-related activities within Sarasota County's parks. This role involves planning and supervising maintenance projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and maintaining the aesthetic and structural integrity of park facilities. The supervisor will also handle staff training, customer service, and budget preparation, contributing to the overall maintenance and improvement of park infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • OR Associate's degree and two (2) years of related experience.
  • OR High School Diploma (or equivalent) and four (4) years of related work experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience directing the work of subordinate personnel.
  • Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized training and/or certification in horticulture, irrigation, herbicide, and pesticide application, tree maintenance and/or turf management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, supervise schedules, and train staff in proper horticultural and tree maintenance practices/procedures.
  • Ensure the structural and aesthetic integrity of all common area mowing and trails.
  • Apply professional standards to determine the effectiveness of the maintenance program and operations.
  • Monitor parks and associated facilities to ensure compliance with established maintenance rules, regulations, safety standards, methods, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of park landscape beds, trees, irrigation systems, common areas, and trails.
  • Implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) guidelines and supervise the fertilization and appropriate applications of herbicides and insecticides in accordance with IPM and all Federal, State, and County regulations.
  • Direct staff in the performance of periodic and/or annual renovation projects.
  • Help to develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards.
  • Prepare management reports; collect, analyze, and evaluate data and information and develop conclusions and recommendations.
  • Maintain time and production records.
  • Provide polite, friendly, and accurate customer service and handle citizen complaints, explaining County ordinances, policies, and procedures.
  • Function as a liaison with various user groups and organizations within the area assigned.
  • Order materials and supplies and maintain equipment.
  • Prepare work orders for the accomplishment of maintenance needs.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual maintenance budget, entering data into the computer.
