About The Position

The Parks Maintenance Crew Supervisor (Golf Course) performs difficult skilled work and responsible technical work supervising and participating in the work of a golf course maintenance crew. Performs maintenance in a large municipal park system that involves the use of specialized equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and work guidance is provided to assigned work crews. Work schedule may include nights, weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Thorough knowledge of golf course maintenance and management techniques acquired from a combination of formal education and on-the-job training.
  • Must have a North Carolina Pesticide license or be able to obtain during probationary period of one (1) year of hire
  • Thorough understanding of local, state and federal safety regulations and OSHA
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) year degree in horticulture, turf management, or similar field
  • Previous experience in a paid supervisory position

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, trains, organizes and supervises the work of small crews in the daily operations of golf course maintenance activities
  • Trains new workers in the safe operation of tools and equipment
  • Supervises and participates in the golf course maintenance, repair, installation and construction work
  • Mows, trims, cleans and maintains golf course areas using specialized equipment such as tractors with attachments, reel mowers, pickup trucks with trailers, heavy dump trucks, backhoes, tractor-loaders, chippers, chain saws, riding mowers, trap rakes and other related equipment
  • Inspects work in progress to assure conformance with instructions
  • Makes and adjusts work assignments
  • Requisitions necessary equipment and materials
  • Applies pesticides and herbicides as needed to maintain healthy and attractive golf course
  • Cuts down and removes dead trees and shrubs; maintains flower beds
  • Prunes, mulches and plants trees and shrubs
  • Grades, seeds, fertilizes, waters and sods turf areas
  • Installs, repairs and maintains irrigation systems
  • Prepares simple work reports
  • Ensures that all park maintenance work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standard and policies.
