About The Position

Manages, directs, and coordinates operations of the Skilled Trades Division. Duties may include, but are not limited to: planning, supervising, managing, overseeing and evaluating daily operations in DPR buildings and parks. Direction received from Skilled Trades Division Manager. Ability to work with very little supervision, plan work schedule, schedule meetings and supervision of staff and assigned contractors. Requirements

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervisory methods, including employee selection, termination, training, conducting performance appraisals, and other functions of a supervisor or manager.
  • Skill in use of computer and standard business software packages.
  • Skill in route design and analysis, cost and budget analysis and vehicle design.
  • Skill in information gathering and dispersal, evaluating, documenting, calculations, formulating, and storage of data.
  • Ability to plan schedules, provide leadership and assign the work of subordinates through verbal and written instruction or demonstration in order to make the most effective and efficient use of staff.
  • Ability to determine training needs, provide orientation and training to subordinate staff.
  • Ability to interpret and apply pertinent local, state, and federal laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate discipline (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).
  • 5 years' of related experience to include 2 years' of supervisory experience.
  • Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and analyzes operational needs; reviews, evaluates, and generates reports pertaining to staffing requirements, equipment availability, productivity, and measured service levels that impact work measures and standards; evaluates future equipment requirements to include the development of vehicle specifications; evaluates current and future site requirements; ensures that parks and buildings are safe and maintained on schedule through work order system.
  • Manages staff and effectively recommends personnel actions related to selection, training, disciplinary procedures, performance, leave of absence, grievances, work schedules and assignments and administers personnel and related procedures. Explains and interprets regulation and procedures; coordinates and directs work schedules and systems.
  • Manages documentation; composes and prepares routine correspondence, letters, memoranda, statistical reports, and other documents, review drafts for completeness and accuracy; ensures documents are maintained and filed systematically.
  • Makes sure that employees have the required equipment, supplies, and tools in order to perform assigned duties.
  • Assists in the development of the budget; forecasts projects, formulates staffing and equipment needs, monitors expenditures to ensure budgetary compliance, and compiles and analyzes data.
  • Communicates with citizens, intra/interdepartmental employees, vendors, contractors and any associated stakeholders regarding DPR parks and building concerns.
  • Recommends policy or strategy changes; modifies organization to achieve objectives.
  • Has managerial authority over a group of professional employees and/or a group of professional, technical, or administrative employees with multiple intermediate supervisors and/or team leaders.
  • Oversees fleet management e.g. vehicles, aerial equipment, etc.
  • Manages outside contractors.
  • Oversee administrative duties, to include but not limited to, hiring, payroll, and closing work orders.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
