About The Position

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As a Community Health Program Instructor, you will support the YMCA in the Evidence-Based Health Intervention (EBHI) programs like Livestrong at the YMCA, Parkinson’s Programs, Diabetes Prevention, Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring, Healthy Weight & Your Child, and Exercise is Medicine. The instructor will ensure these programs operate successfully, within HIPAA compliance measures, and in accordance with policies, procedures, and established best practices. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or relevant experience
  • Must complete program-specific certification within 60 days of hire
  • Must hold current CPR/AED, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention certification within 60 days of hire
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and always be professional and polite.
  • Must accept and demonstrate the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  • Must have knowledge of and experience with exercise equipment and physical education principles.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge and interest in public health/community integrated health & evidence-based initiatives
  • Must believe in the mission of the YMCA and be able to exhibit the mission statement in both personal and professional life.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and lead EBHI programs to the association, YUSA, and Spartanburg Regional Health System standards, and work with branch staff to develop the overall operation of these programs.
  • Support and conduct intake, coordination, delivery, evaluation, and timely tracking for specified programs.
  • Support the growth and successful operation of EBHI programming for the association.
  • Facilitate and strengthen community engagement in the service areas of our branch to expand and enhance the delivery of current and new EBHI programs offered at the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg.
  • Track all data and provide necessary reports on time, utilizing appropriate software.
  • Serve as spokesperson and ambassador of EBHI programming.
  • Maintain positive public relations with the community and participants and always represent the best interests of the YMCA.
  • Work closely with the Community Health Coordinator and Senior Director of Health & Wellness to ensure programs and impact are promoted to our membership, participants, stakeholders, partners, and communities.
  • Maintain open communication and work proactively to build strong relationships with all staff.
  • Assist in planning special events that will create a positive image of the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg in our community.
  • Follow and enforce all YMCA safety standards and emergency procedures.
  • Attend all staff meetings and required trainings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support YMCA operations.
