About The Position

This is a provisional appointment for the position of Parking Meter Supervisor within the Traffic Division. The role involves performing work of moderate difficulty, primarily focused on tagging illegally parked vehicles in assigned areas under general supervision.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in a customer service/consumer complaints area.
  • Experience must include accurately collecting and recording information and courteously responding to complaints and informational requests by the general public.
  • Examples of relevant positions include Customer Service Representative, Bus Attendant, Parking Attendant, Waiter, Waitress, Traffic Clerk, Receptionist, and other related occupations.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver's license.
  • CORI CHECK REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the immediate supervisor any meter found to be out of order and any damaged traffic standards (signposts, traffic signals, and missing or loose signs).
  • Drives departmental vehicles when necessary and complies with all applicable procedures in the operation of the same.
  • Compiles, prepares, and submits all daily work operating reports and other forms as required.
  • Acts in a courteous and professional manner with the public when explaining parking regulations or providing directions or traffic information.
  • Patrols an assigned area or route to observe motor vehicles eligible for impoundment; identifies eligible vehicles and reports to central operations by walkie-talkie or two-way radio to verify the same.
  • May be required to key punch information used in the retrieval of vehicles violating the City of Boston parking ordinances.
  • Inspects all open-air parking lots to ensure compliance with Traffic and Parking rules and regulations.
  • May be required to appear in court hearings regarding findings of traffic and open-air parking lot violations.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Required to work any and all emergencies as directed by the Deputy Chief of Transportation or designee.
