About The Position

Be an ambassador for the City of Concord and Concord Police Department. While the POET does enforce parking rules and regulations, they do so much more. The POET is the face of City government on Main Street and in its neighborhoods. Come join the City's team. Earn at least $40,000 annually, with additional opportunities for more income via overtime. Requirements

  • High school graduate or its recognized equivalent.
  • Valid State of New Hampshire Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of City of Concord's basic geography.
  • Knowledge of all parking rules, ordinances, and regulations of the city.
  • Ability to operate handheld computer for generating and logging parking tickets.
  • Basic spoken and written English skills.
  • Ability to use standard hand tools and equipment.
  • Basic arithmetic principles.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce parking rules and regulations within the City of Concord.
  • Perform semi-skilled duties required to maintain, repair, and replace parking meters and kiosks.
  • Ensure fair access to parking spaces in accordance with city ordinances.
  • Expedite the orderly flow of traffic.
  • Process parking tickets and payments received.
  • Collect, process, and deposit payments from parking meters and kiosk pay stations.
  • Ticket motor vehicles that are in violation of city parking ordinances.
  • Testify in court regarding parking tickets which are appealed.
  • Assist with the training of new personnel.
  • Answer questions from the public regarding city parking ordinances and policies.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from citizens regarding illegally parked vehicles.
  • Issue warnings in the form of adhesive stickers to vehicles with outstanding parking fines.
  • Notify Police Department Headquarters about citizen complaints and traffic problems.
  • Locate vehicles due for immobilization and place/remove immobilization devices.
  • Facilitate the towing of vehicles for violation of certain regulations.
  • Substitute for Reception-area staff and maintain records relating to parking violations.
  • Assist with directing traffic and set up barricades, cones, and signage as needed.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment needed to perform job.
  • Occasionally work overnight shifts for enforcement of winter parking bans.
  • Observe and monitor parking facilities for suspicious activities and cleanliness.
  • Collect money from parking meters and kiosks, process and deposit it.
  • Maintain and monitor daily meter repair log and complaint records.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to parking meters and kiosks.
  • Inspect meters and parking kiosks for malfunctions or vandalism.
  • Clean meters and kiosk pay station housings and replace decals/signage as required.
