The Park Worker position within the Parks and Recreation Division of the General Services Department is responsible for maintaining the grounds and facilities of parks and landscaped areas. This includes a variety of tasks such as cultivating and fertilizing grounds, planting, mowing, raking, and irrigating lawn areas, as well as planting trees, shrubs, and flowers. The role also involves performing ornamental and other types of pruning and applying pesticides to ensure the health and aesthetics of the park environments. In addition to grounds maintenance, the Park Worker is tasked with maintaining, repairing, and providing custodial services to park buildings and facilities. This includes ensuring that drinking fountains, restrooms, picnic facilities, playgrounds, and playing fields are clean and functional. The worker will also be involved in constructing park facilities and other projects that require skills in rough carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, and other maintenance tasks. The position requires the installation and maintenance of both manual and automated irrigation systems, as well as the operation of various maintenance tools and equipment, including power tools, sprayers, mowers, and tractors. The Park Worker must ensure compliance with department rules and regulations to protect and preserve the natural features of the parks. Additionally, the role includes supervising general relief crews, temporary employees, and alternative work program crews, acting as a lead worker when necessary.
