About The Position

Position Summary: Park Tech I: This is the entry-level Parks Technician. A Park Tech I performs a wide variety of routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the Parks Department. Skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled parks maintenance functions, parks maintenance, weed control, cemetery maintenance and snow removal. This position requires both inside and outside work in all weather conditions year-round. Requires travel to various work sites and mobility in extreme weather conditions. Possession of an appropriate, valid class B commercial driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Position serves “on call” for after hour needs. Position Range: $45,329-$56,549/yr Park Tech II: This is the second level within the Parks Technicians. Employees within this position are distinguished from the Parks Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned. At this level Park Tech II’s receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Employees in this position are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from level I, or when filled from the outside, have prior experience and meet all qualifications. Possession of an appropriate, valid class B commercial driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Position serves “on call” for after hour needs. Position Range: $49,763-$62,204/yr Park Tech III: This is the third level within the Parks Technicians. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Parks Technician II by years of experience and additional certifications and licenses. Those at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Employees in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the II level, or when filled from the outside, have prior experience and meet all qualifications. Position Range: $54,739-$68,424/yr. Requirements

  • Ability to operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and basics of heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of horticulture, irrigation, and maintenance.
  • Ability to perform labor in an outdoor setting in varying weather conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, to present complex issues clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety precautions, ability to understand the Material Safety Data Sheets for the materials that are frequently used.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, town officials, developers, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain detailed work under changing, intensive deadlines on multiple concurrent tasks, constant interruptions and interaction with government officials and the public.
  • Effective communication and collaboration, and team-building skills are necessary for success.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Available for 24-hour emergency call out, if needed by the Town
  • Successful passing of a background check and drug screening.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Record of reliability and punctuality.
  • At minimum one (1) year of parks or maintenance experience.
  • Successful passing of a background check and drug screening.
  • Valid Driver’s license CDL Class B
  • Two (2) years of parks or maintenance experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience with operation of light and/or heavy equipment.
  • Successful passing of a background check and drug screening.
  • Valid Driver’s CDL Class B license
  • Minimum four (4) years of Parks or Maintenance experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years in a supervisory role
  • Valid Driver’s CDL Class B license, Class A desired.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in pesticide application or irrigation systems (preferred).
  • Advanced certifications (Playground safety, Arborist, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Grounds maintenance: mowing, pruning and removing trees, weed control planting trees and flowers, watering plants.
  • Irrigation maintenance and overall grounds maintenance.
  • Plant and care for flowers, shrubs, and other greenery to enhance the park's aesthetic appeal.
  • Repair and maintain park structures such as fences, benches, and signs. Including responsibilities of carpentry, light masonry, or painting
  • Maintain and mow lawns, trim bushes, pruning or removal of trees, weed control, Ice and snow removal.
  • Perform routine maintenance of park facilities, including playgrounds, restrooms, picnic areas, and trails.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary park facilities.
  • Empty trash cans and collect litter throughout the park.
  • Trash collection and removal
  • Use equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers for park grounds upkeep.
  • Aiding in facility maintenance. Painting, light masonry or carpentry work.
  • Digging vaults and closing graves
  • Playground maintenance
  • Light maintenance on vehicles and equipment
  • Minor electrical repair
  • Assist with park programs and events, as needed.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Conduct inspections to identify safety hazards and address them promptly.
  • Operate and maintain various tools and equipment used in park maintenance, such as tractors, utility vehicles, and power tools.
  • Ensure equipment is properly serviced and in good working order.
  • Irrigation maintenance
  • Help ensure park safety by reporting any safety concerns.
  • Aid in the records of maintenance activities, inventory, and equipment usage.
  • Assist in the procurement of supplies and materials needed for park maintenance.
  • May be responsible to lead crews of volunteers, seasonal staff or contractors by assigning work and monitoring work progress
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Plan and oversee larger maintenance or construction projects.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise on equipment and systems (e.g., irrigation, plumbing).
  • Act as a point of contact for contractors and vendors.
  • Responsible for park techs, volunteers, seasonal staff.
  • Be lead for projects, under the direction of the Park Foreman.
  • Assist in budget preparation and inventory management for park supplies.
