About The Position

The Park & Recreation Ranger 6-E8 position at Waterloo Recreation Area is a seasonal role focused on assisting in the daily operations of parks and recreation facilities. The ranger will support the Unit Supervisor in administrative tasks, perform maintenance duties, train staff, and ensure safety for themselves and the public. This role requires obtaining a DNR Law Enforcement Commission and attending necessary training academies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • For Ranger 6: No specific experience required.
  • For Ranger 7: One year of experience in a park or recreation setting or construction trades.
  • For Ranger E8: Two years of park and recreation experience, including one year equivalent to a Park and Recreation Ranger 7.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a DNR Law Enforcement Commission.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record for two years prior to academy attendance.
  • Clean criminal record without felony convictions or high court misdemeanors.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of college credits in natural resources, park management, or outdoor recreation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of Parks and Recreation Division facilities.
  • Perform operational and maintenance duties for park facilities.
