About The Position

The Park Rapids Area Fisheries Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive fisheries management program in the Park Rapids Fisheries Management Area. This role aims to protect, sustain, and enhance fisheries and aquatic resources while ensuring efficient operations and effective management planning. The supervisor will lead a team, manage budgets, coordinate with local associations, and engage in public relations to educate the community about fisheries activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in biology, fisheries, fish and wildlife, or closely associated area.
  • Four years of professional level experience in fisheries management, research, or ecology.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or lead worker experience with coaching and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to prepare and edit high-quality technical reports and management plans.
  • Strong communication skills to convey information to technical audiences and local constituents.
  • Computer proficiency, including knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and statistical programs.
  • Considerable knowledge of procedures involved in fisheries area management.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Fisheries or a closely-related field.
  • Experience facilitating or leading diverse groups on fisheries-related issues.
  • Experience with cold water streams and trout management.
  • Experience with fisheries management in large river systems.
  • Experience developing and implementing budgets and operational plans.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and administer the fisheries management program in the Park Rapids area.
  • Direct and operate an area headquarters with full budget responsibility.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and implement a fisheries investigational program.
  • Direct fish stocking and propagation programs to enhance sport fishing opportunities.
  • Coordinate with local associations and government units to implement fisheries management plans.
  • Provide public relations to inform clientele of fisheries activities and educate on resource protection.
  • Coordinate fisheries management and research activities to meet specified goals and objectives.
  • Ensure safe performance of tasks by staff according to established safety procedures.
