About The Position
The Park Ranger position at Peoria's Parks & Recreation department is a vital role focused on preserving and respecting the natural habitat and physical facilities within neighborhood parks, community parks, and the trails system. This position is not only about maintaining the beauty of these areas but also involves programming and planning educational outdoor interpretive programs for the community. As a Park Ranger, you will be the face of the Parks and Recreation department, providing front-line customer service to the public while enforcing rules, regulations, and ordinances related to park usage. This role may also include overseeing part-time staff and volunteers, ensuring that all activities within the parks are conducted safely and in accordance with established guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess a working understanding of common techniques, methods, practices, and procedures relevant to park management. You will be expected to attain Basic Life Support (CPR) and First Aid certification within the first six months of employment, highlighting the importance of safety in this role. Physical stamina and endurance are essential, as the job requires the ability to lift weights between 10 and 25 pounds. The Park Ranger must be results-oriented and possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with the community and promote a positive park experience.
