About The Position

This position is critical to the BPL Western Region Public Lands team in the performance of recreational support functions. The Public Lands Western Region has over 100 miles of hiking trails, 200 campsites, and a variety of other backcountry recreational opportunities. Using their knowledge and passion for the environment and outdoor recreation, the successful candidate will help to maintain and protect the land, water areas, buildings, and other physical facilities on public lands and day use areas while fostering a welcoming and safe environment for visitors in the Western Region. The position is temporary and will be filled in early May until the end of August with flexible start and end dates.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in park maintenance and operation or equivalent.
  • Valid Class C Maine motor vehicle operator’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and general maintenance of campsites
  • Maintaining hiking trails and trail heads
  • Maintaining boat launch facilities
  • Enforcing land rules and regulations for Public Reserved Lands to ensure the safety of the environment, facilities, and park users.
  • Working with hand tools or power machinery in sometimes remote recreational settings, often walking long distances over strenuous terrain or working in adverse weather conditions.
  • Meeting and greeting the public and providing information concerning public lands facilities and rules, historical data, and other related information to advise the public.
  • Compiling, writing, and submitting weekly activity, financial, and vehicle reports to document land activities and provide valuable information.
