This is a skilled position responsible for resource management on Blackwater River State Forest. The Park Ranger operates light and heavy equipment; works under the supervision of Forestry Supervisor II and sometimes alone or in small groups; is responsible for State Forest road and bridge maintenance, installation maintenance and improvement of State Forest recreation features such as campground sites, horse and foot trails, stream fords and crossings; establishment and maintenance of primitive recreation sites, removal and disposal of dangerous or unwanted trees in recreation areas; maintenance (to include closure) of graded fire lines for fire control purposes and recreation access to the State Forest; establishment, maintenance and removal of debris at bridges and other sites for recreational use by canoeists. Contacts the general public regarding conditions of roads and bridges on the State Forest, access to recreation areas and remote areas of the State Forest. Responds to requests by the general public for maintenance or improvement of the State Forest transportation system. Performs maintenance, cleaning and minor repairs or modifications on equipment and buildings of Blackwater Forestry Center, and at the various State Forest recreation sites as assigned to include construction of boardwalks and foot bridges, retaining walls, septic systems, gristmill repairs, etc., to provide for the safety and convenience of the general public. Transports heavy equipment, construction materials, federal excess property and other commodities as assigned, both by inter- and intra-state. Performs other related work as assigned.
