About The Position

The Park Ranger position assists visitors to The Woodlands parks and recreation system by providing information, direction, and support to enrich their recreational experience. The role aims to provide a pleasant, safe environment that promotes community harmony and the benefits of parks and recreation. Responsibilities include inspecting parks, play equipment, and pathways to evaluate physical conditions, promoting park, recreation, and safety programs, and ensuring compliance with park rules. Park Rangers follow the guidelines of the Park Ranger program and are considered essential employees, subject to being called to work during emergency conditions such as disasters.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • One (1) year related experience.
  • Successful completion of 80 hours of training prescribed by the Ranger Program required.
  • Must possess a Texas driver’s license and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
  • Successful completion of 80 hours on-the-job (OTJ) training prescribed by the Ranger Program required (provided by the Township).
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Pass background check.
  • Eligible status on Motor Vehicle Report.

Nice To Haves

  • MS Office computer skills are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist visitors to The Woodlands parks and recreation system by providing information, direction and support that will enrich their recreational experience and provide a pleasant, safe environment that promotes community harmony and the benefits of parks and recreation.
  • Inspects parks, play equipment and pathways to evaluate physical conditions, promote park, recreation and safety programs, and ensure compliance of park rules.
  • Follows the guidelines of the Park Ranger program.
  • During emergency conditions, subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
  • Support appropriate park activities and recreation through enforcement of parks rules and Township policies, procedures and covenants in a positive way.
  • Be approachable and accessible to all visitors, encourage frequent, direct, positive, friendly and personal contact, and provide information that promotes the benefits of parks and recreation.
  • Perform duties in support of creating a pleasant, safe environment that promotes community harmony. Which include but are not limited to debris removal, general maintenance, park and playground inspections.
  • Ensure the safety of park users by enforcing rules and regulations, and performing detailed safety inspections of playgrounds.
  • Inspect properties such as parks, pathways and recreational facilities to evaluate physical conditions, safety practices, and hazardous situations; anticipate and solve problems on a daily basis and submit work requests.
  • Confer with residents to induce compliance with covenants, safety standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Patrol The Woodlands Township’s 200 +/- miles of pathways.
  • Perform Township wide inspections related to parks, pathways, osr, covant compliance, property damage, and other properties as requested.
  • Perform minor repair work on play structures, swimming pools, irrigation systems, bridges, etc.
  • Perform clean-up at facilities.
  • Wear prescribed uniform.
  • Prepare various reports including vandalism, maintenance and park and pathway needs and keep a daily log.
  • Document all vandalism through incident reports and pictures.
  • Maintain golf cart and/or pickup truck.
  • Assist with developing programs for staff to educate the public.
  • May be required to work special events on nights, weekends or holidays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
