About The Position

The Park Ranger position at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a temporary role focused on enhancing visitor experiences and promoting stewardship of park resources. Rangers will live and work on the Manitou Islands, engaging with visitors, providing safety services, and conducting educational tours and resource management projects.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old with specific educational qualifications.
  • Experience equivalent to GS-4 level in emergency services, resource management, or park-related work.
  • Education: 4 years of education above high school or a combination of education and experience in related fields.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in environmental education or law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of natural and cultural resource management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Ranger staff in providing safety and personal services for the public.
  • Greet daily passenger ferry and private boats.
  • Register campers and provide orientation.
  • Serve as an informational contact for park visitors.
  • Conduct tours of South Manitou Lighthouse.
  • Patrol trails, beaches, and campgrounds.
  • Provide information to ranger staff regarding problems.
  • Assist during emergency situations.
  • Conduct resource management projects.
