About The Position

The Park Ranger position involves assisting the Parks Department with all operations related to the Lake Ponca Recreational Area and other City parks and recreational facilities. The role includes a variety of essential and marginal functions that ensure the safety, maintenance, and enjoyment of park facilities and activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • One (1) year professional experience in a customer service environment.
  • Knowledge and ability in record keeping and report writing.
  • Knowledge of water safety and safe boat operations.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws regarding water activity and passenger vehicles.
  • CLEET Training Phase 1, 2 and 4.
  • CLEET Certified Licensed Armed Security Guard.
  • Marine Officer Survival Training.
  • Boating Oklahoma Boat Safety.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Training.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol park grounds and Lake Ponca, enforce ordinances, verify permits, monitor hazardous conditions, and investigate suspicious activity.
  • Provide basic first aid services and handle visitor complaints.
  • Maintain buoys on Lake Ponca assuring 'No Wake Zones' are adequately marked.
  • Inspect facilities around Lake Ponca and report repairs needed to the Parks department.
  • Patrol Ponca City area parks to secure facilities and conduct physical inspections for damage.
  • Enforce boating and fishing laws at Lake Ponca.
  • Patrol Lake Ponca shoreline for compliance of fishing regulations.
  • Monitor Lake Ponca for compliant vehicle operation on the water.
  • Respond to dispatch calls involving city owned properties around Lake Ponca.
  • Provide public access to information about upcoming events and programs.
  • Educate the public on the natural environment, pollution, and resource protection.
  • Assist in providing traffic control, area maintenance, and open/close the parks during special events and holidays.
  • Represent the City to the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist in the operation of recreation activities and special events.
  • Inspect watercraft for state regulated items and provide direction for owners.
  • Perform annual Lake Lot inspections and monitor rules and regulations related to lake lots.
  • Monitor Lake Ponca Campground reservations and activity.
